The 3rd International Conference on Neuroprosthetic Devices (ICNPD-2011) took place in Sydney, Australia on November 25-26, 2011.

The conference drew 70 participants, including 25 speakers from 9 countries (Australia, China, Denmark, Germany, Korea, Singapore, Taiwan, UK, and USA).

The conference covered the following topics:
Vision prosthetics: pros and cons of different implant locations in retinal pathologies (epiretinal, subretinal, suprachoroidal, visual cortex)
Electrical stimulation and drug delivery for hearing prosthetics: combined electrical and chemical stimulation for inducing neural plasticity
Vestibular prosthetics: design and implementation of prosthetics for 3D balance restoration
Neuromodulation for Parkinson’s, epilepsy, chronic pain: closed loop control using electrochemistry and neural recordings
Prosthetics for muscle paralysis: sensory feedback
Neuroprosthetic electrodes: optimizing the electrode size and geometry, electrochemistry at the electrode-tissue interface
Signal processing in neuroprosthetics: low-power chip design and power/data telemetry

Conference co-chairs:

Gregg Suaning (University of New South Wales, Sydney, Australia)

Victor Pikov (Huntington Medical Research Institutes, Pasadena, CA, USA)
